One of the trickiest parts of painting furniture can be painting the handles and knobs. Just how do you hold the piece while painting around all of the edges? You could paint it while it's attached to the furniture, but don't! You'll just make a big mess. Try this simple painting hack instead.
Necessity is the mother of invention, right? After transforming my daughter's bunk beds from navy blue to white, I realized that I still had to paint the drawer knobs. Yikes. Nightmare! . . . or not. I came up with this simple idea.
Simple Painting Hack for Drawer Hardware

All you need is a styrofoam bowl and the screws that come with your hardware. (Paper bowls might work, too, but I had styrofoam, so that's what I used.)
Step 1: Twist the screws through the bottom of the bowl.
Step 2: Turn the bowl upside down, and attach the knobs to the screws.
Step 3: Paint the knobs. The screws make perfect little handles to support each knob while you paint, but they allow you to paint the entire knob at once. (Don't paint the bottom--the part that actually touches the drawer.) Be careful to arrange the knobs so that they don't touch each other as they are drying.
Step 4: Allow them to dry, and attach them to the furniture! Easy peasy. (See my post titled: How to Paint Furniture Like a Pro to learn about sanding and what type of paint to use.)
Here's the finished project! (Click on the image if you want to see the post.)

Great hack! I wish I'd thought of it before I did a similar project...instead my little knobs rolled around everywhere and I got paint all over my hands! Lol! Thanks for sharing on Create Link Inspire! Pinning!

I've painted knobs the hard way (and gotten paint everywhere) many times. I don't know why it took me so long to think of this idea!

I hate painting but these could make it easier! I have a dresser I have been putting off for awhile so the knob trick will come in handy!
Heidi
Good luck with the dresser, Jenn. I have a few painting projects I've been putting off, too.

What a great idea! I definitely would never have thought of that myself. I am about to redo a dresser in a bedroom and I will be using this tip.

Thanks, Alicia. Good luck with the dresser. I hope it turns out just the way you hope.

Madison
What type of paint do you recommend for painting cheap wooden knobs? Thanks in advance :)
Heidi
Hi, Madison. It’s been years since I painted those handles, but I’m pretty sure I just used latex paint. If you are painting the furniture they go on, you can use the same paint you used on the furniture. I like to use semi gloss for furnitue. Good luck with your project.
