How many cans are hidden in this family room?  Can you guess?  Would you believe 100?  If you need extra space to store cans or other small items--and you have reclining furniture--this simple hidden storage idea may work for you.

Most recliners have a small space underneath.  It doesn't look very big, but this one actually holds 25 cans!  I know.  A lot of you think I'm a lunatic, but really--who reclines the couches in your house?  Family and close friends.  It's not like the Queen of England is going to come to visit, decide to recline on your couch, and notice the cans.  (Actually.  I have been known to show off my cans because I love sharing my extra space idea!)

On a side note, if your recliner is also a rocker, this may not work for you.  The rocking recliners do not have the same space underneath.  Sorry!

I know several of your are wondering why in the world I need so much canned food.  I store food and water in case of emergency--so that my family will be prepared in case of natural disaster, loss of a job, or to help someone else in need.    To learn more about why and how I prepare for emergencies, click here to be linked to lds.org.  On that site, you can also learn more about self-reliance and family well-being (finances, gardening, home storage, addiction recovery, etc) by clicking on the links in the left sidebar.

This post is for Jena, who has been telling me to put this idea on my blog since I started it! I finally did it.  I hope you all like the idea!

Wow - who would have thought you could store extra canned goods under there? My friend was just telling me a story this morning about how her neighbor couldn't find her little doggie all day and she looked everywhere, then when she was about to give up, someone sat down in the recliner and leaned back and popped up the foot part and out ran the dog. Who knows why the little thing didn't bark at all while it was stuck in there. Can you believe that?

This made me laugh. Poor dog! I wonder how long he was trapped.

When we finally are able to start traveling in our RV, I am certainly planning on checking under the recliners for extra storage space. Yes, I also keep a well stocked pantry (overly stocked for just an old couple:) Thank you for sharing this cool tip at Freedom Fridays!

That's a great idea! I don't have any reclining furniture, but if I did, I'd be using this!
