    Harry Potter Party Ideas!

Published: Jan 29, 2021 by Heidi. This post may contain affiliate links 20 Comments

You are cordially invited to the virtual version of Bear's Harry Potter Birthday Party!  Be sure to check out the invitation!  (You'll find all of my Harry Potter Party posts and ideas here.)

The best ideas for the ultimate Harry Potter Party {OneCreativeMommy.com} #harrypotterparty #partyideas #harrypotter #kidsparty #halloweenparty

First, you must enter through platform 9 ¾.  Be sure to get a running start!

Now that you have entered the wizarding world, you'll need to head to Diagon Alley to pick up your school supplies.  Here's your list.

Harry Potter Party Ideas {OneCreativeMommy.com} #harrypotterparty

Don't worry.  You can find all of these items at Florish & Blotts, Madim Malkin's, and Ollivanders.

Normally, "the wand chooses the wizard," but since it's flu season, we let the wizard choose the wand, instead.  I forgot to take pictures of the wand-making, so this picture will have to do.  Pretend that someone hasn't already started to chew the chocolate off of the end of the wand!

Once you have purchased your supplies, it's time to head to Hogwarts for the sorting!  (The next picture is my favorite from the party.  I think I had just announced that Bear would be in Gryffindor house.)

After the sorting hat is placed on your head, it will spit out a special badge for your house.  (No one was sorted into Slytherin house.  I guess Bear doesn't have many power-hungry friends!)

Next, it's time for Potions class.  The first assignment--Using the following edible ingredients, prepare a potion to reduce hunger pain:  blood worms, dried beetles, blind cat eyes, hippogriff gizzards, dried sardines, bezoars, sneezewort cakes, and toad livers.  (This was Bear's favorite part.)

While you are testing your potion, the potion master (my hubby) will demonstrate some potions using dream fluid.

    New Harry Potter Bingo Games!

I'm interrupting this party post with breaking news -- Harry Potter style! Revelio Bingo! Click on the image to see my brand new Harry Potter bingo games and maybe even download a free printable.

Now, turn to page two of your Potions book.  It's time for you to prepare and test a gaseous potion with inflative properties.  Be careful with the acromantula venom.  It is highly poisonous!

Harry Potter Party Ideas {OneCreativeMommy.com} #harrypotterparty

(It was so fun to hear the kids' reactions when they carefully dumped in the crushed bezoar.  We had them all do it at once.)

The next class is Transfiguration.  After you come to the front of the class, I will whisper to you the name of an animal or object, and you must transfigure yourself into that thing.  Don't forget the spell!  "Fera Verto."  (Actually, that's a spell to turn an animal into a water goblet, but it's close enough!)

Just as everyone finishes their turn, an important message is delivered:

Oh, no!  Everyone is in danger!  Hurry outside to help find all of the missing magical creatures!

Harry Potter Party Ideas {OneCreativeMommy.com} #harrypotterpartyWhile you were outside saving the day, Daddy and the House Elves got started preparing a feast.  There's just enough time to open presents before it's ready!  But, before we eat, you must do one final spell.  Wave your wand over your cup of ice as we pour in clear soda.  Say, "Liquidius Surprisus!"  (This was another favorite moment from the party.)

Finally, it's time for cake.  Hagrid prepared it, and he accidentally sat on the cake box.  Sorry, it's a little messy.

Harry Potter Party Ideas {OneCreativeMommy.com} #harrypotterparty

(This was the perfect cake for me.  I floured the pans instead of using waxed paper, and they didn't come out of the pan very well.  I was glad to give Hagrid the credit!)

Sadly, it's time for the party to end.  Don't forget to choose your rewards from Honeydukes Sweetshop.

Very cute and very creative! I love the hunt for missing creatures and the mixing of potions! The hat sorting was great too - glad there were no Slytherins!

Thanks, Joyce. I'm afraid there might have been some tears if kids had ended up in Slytherin!
