I'll admit it. I'm kind of addicted to snowmen. It doesn't snow much here in the desert, but I love to fill my home with their cheery faces as soon as Thanksgiving dinner is all cleaned up! I made this family of Terra Cotta Snowmen in the early days of my marriage, and I thought you might like to try your hand at making them, too. I saw some in a magazine, and I knew I could make my own. Do you want to build a snowman craft? (Hee, hee. I couldn't resist.)
Terra Cotta Snowman Craft
RELATED: Quick and Easy Terra Cotta Snowman, Terra Cotta Pumpkins
Materials:
- 3 colors of craft paint for the hats. (I used burgundy, navy blue and forest green. Choose whatever matches your home and your style.)
- Pink paint for the cheeks. (Choose a more subtle pink than I did! Whoa, those cheeks are pink!)
- White spray paint
- Terra Cotta pots and lids in various sizes.
- Wooden Craft balls (with flat bottoms) in three sizes.
- Orange Sculpy clay
- Buttons
- Black craft marker, paint pen or Sharpie
- Hot glue
- Brushes
Directions:
- Spray all pots and wooden balls white, and allow to dry.
- Paint the lid "hats," and allow to dry.
- Carefully and lightly draw a grid design on the rim of each pot, and fill in the checker boxes with paint to match the corresponding lid. (If the checkerboard seems too complicated, just paint each rim the same color as the corresponding lid.)
- Shape the noses out of clay and bake them in the oven. (It might be wise to make a few extras in case a nose gets lost when the snowmen are stored away after the holidays.)
- Using marker or paint pen and buttons, create a face for each snowman. (Do your best not to make your tiny snowman creepy looking, like mine!)
- Glue on the noses, buttons, and wooden balls with craft glue. (I will warn you that the noses will inevitably fall off when they are in storage. I have to reglue the "Dad" snowman's nose on every year.)
Display and enjoy!
