Quick and Easy Christmas Chandelier

Published: Dec 27, 2021 by Heidi. This post may contain affiliate links 17 Comments

I'm hope you're all staying healthy this season. I'm just now coming up for air after two weeks with a nasty bug. I think maybe I'd better get a flu shot! If you think you have no time for holiday decorating, have I got a simple idea for you today! It only takes a few minutes to turn an ordinary light fixture into a gorgeous Christmas chandelier!

All you need is a hanging light fixture, fishing line or thread, and Christmas ornaments. I got mine for half off at the after Christmas sales last year. It's too late for that this year, but you can plan ahead for next year. When you see those those ornaments go on sale, snag some extras!

This is super simple. All you do is tie a piece of thread or string to two Christmas bulbs -- one on each end of the string -- and loop them over the top of the light fixture. You want the bulbs to hang at various lengths, so be sure to vary the lengths of the string.

This is also a really good time to pull out a duster and get to that really fun job of dusting your light fixtures! It's always fun to find out how much dirt is up there. (But, I'm sure you all do that regularly, so I'm the only one who gets surprised with a big mess, right?)

I hang ornaments from the light fixture above our kitchen table and from the chandelier in our front entryway.  It really brightens up the house, it's inexpensive, and it's quick! It doesn't get much better than that!

Just a friendly warning. For obvious reasons, this project should only be attempted near covered light bulbs. Please don't attempt this project by hanging string on or next to exposed bulbs! Nobody wants a fire!

What quick and easy holiday decorating ideas do you use in your home? I'd love to hear about your ideas in the comments?

See that Christmas tree in the background? That's our special Jesus Christ-centered tree. It goes right in the main area of our home, and it's decorated in a unique way. You can read all about it and see a clear picture here.

Thanks, Heather. I am lucky to have really pretty light fixtures in my home. I forget that they aren't standard in all houses!

I love your version of this pretty idea! I've been hanging frosted snowflakes from my own dining room light for years - along with red ribbon - very festive! I might have to add a few shiny ornaments like yours. They would really sparkle at night!
LOL on the dusty light fixtures! I think I love Halloween so much because I call dust part of the decorations! :)

Oh, I love the snowflakes idea! They would look so pretty, too! I might just have to try that.

Thanks, Kim. We really like our special Christ-centered tree. We have some other traditions that go with it, too. We use it to try to keep our focus on the important part of Christmas.

I do this too! It's so fun and easy. I love the way it quickly dresses up a place. I usually do the ornaments that I want to hang but I don't want broken since we still have little ones. It's safer than the tree!

I'm kind of loving the new plastic Christmas bulbs. They sure beat the old glass ones. One year I found my daughter walking around with one in her mouth! Scared me to death! Good thing she didn't bite down before I caught her.

I love this idea! It looks really beautiful--too bad I have no light fixtures that would work. I've been wanting to switch our dining room light to a chandelier type, maybe I can convince my husband to do it before Christmas?

I bet you can convince your hubby. After all, I'm sure there's nothing else that needs to be done before the holidays, right? Good luck! There's always next year.
