I'm so happy that it's time to decorate for Halloween! In my opinion, Halloween decorating is the most fun.
Check out my tutorial for simple, no-fabric Candy Corn Pennants:
A couple of years ago, I came across this idea for a fabric candy corn bunting at Tatertots and Jello. Since I already had tons of orange and yellow cardstock, I decided I could make it out of paper instead of fabric. I love the way it turned out, and it was so easy that anyone can make it.
Materials:
- White, yellow, and orange cardstock
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Glue
- Thread
- Free Pattern from OneCreativeMommy.com (link below)
I created these two years ago, when I was very new to blogging. Sorry that I don't have step by step pics. Here's how to make it:
- Each pennant is about 5 ¼" wide. Decide how many pennants you will need, and print your patterns on white, orange and yellow cardstock. (You could cut one pattern out and trace it, but printing on cardstock is sooooo much easier!
- IMPORTANT!!! DO NOT CUT YOUR SHAPES OUT ON THE LINES. Leave extra space around the left, right, and bottom edges. (Do cut the top of the yellow and orange layers on the line.) You will trim all three layers at the same time. For the white shapes, leave an extra strip along the back ¼"-½" wide. You will never cut off that piece. You will use it as a base for sewing on the ribbon.
- Glue the yellow pieces on top of the white, and then glue the orange pieces on top of the yellow.
- Use a paper cutter or scissors to trim the long edges just inside the black lines of all three layers at once.
- Lay your completed pennants side-by-side (point down)on the floor and pin the ribbon across the extra white space at the top. It's okay (and probably a good idea) to overlap the orange a little bit. Leave lots of extra ribbon on the sides for tying to your railing or mantle.
- Using a sewing machine (you can hand stitch, but it will be really tough to stitch through the cardstock) stitch across the ribbon to attach it to the pennants.
- Tie it up somewhere, and you are done! Easy peasy.
(If you want to make this no-sew, you can probably glue the ribbon to the pennants. I'm just not sure how well the ribbon would stay on from year to year. My bunting is three years old, and it's holding up great!)
If you enjoy this idea, please "like," "Pin," or "+1" so that others can join the fun! Thanks!
