    Composition Notebook Makeover

Published: Jan 29, 2021 by Heidi Fowler. This post may contain affiliate links 19 Comments

I love this back-to-school composition notebook makeover project because Boo made it up all by herself!  Sometimes kids have the best ideas!  When I wanted to buy the most inexpensive composition notebooks for school (the type with almost no color), she didn't let that stop her from turning a drab notebook into a fab design!  All she needed was a few sharpies.

We've had some crazy and sad things happening at our house this week, so rather than share something new today, I'm taking some time with my family and re-sharing a back-to-school idea from my very first blogging days.  I've spruced up the post and the pictures just for you!  This idea was originally posted August 7, 2012.

When we went shopping for school supplies, Boo commented that the color/pattern choices were pretty boring this year.  I agreed, and she came up with this fun solution.  All she needed was her composition notebook, some brightly colored Sharpie markers, and her imagination.

This is the easiest project ever, and any kid that you trust with a permanent marker can do it.

Start with a boring notebook.  Do you like ours?  Not bad, but it needs a little zing, don't you think?

Grab some colored permanent markers and cover up all the white space.  Boo went with stripes, but she could have shaped flowers, boxes, a rainbow . . . you name it!

What would you do with your notebook?  (And I know you grownups are dying to try it, too!  I was bummed that I didn't have one of my own to color!)  I've seen a black-and-white chevron design on a composition book.  Wouldn't that be cute in color?

(It's really difficult to take pictures of a shiny book and make them look right.  The book looks a lot cuter than it turned out in the pictures.  Promise.)

Thanks for stopping by today.  What are you doing to get your kids ready for school?  I'd love to hear about it in the comments.  I hope you'll stick around and check out some other ideas while you are here, too!  Images below are linked.

Haha, so cute! We definitely used to do that to our notebooks back in high school, but she's clearly way ahead of the curve! Thanks for sharing at The Fun In Functional!
