Yesterday, I got my hands on some freshly picked corn on the cob. Yummmmm! Since one of my kiddos is hoping to get her two front teeth for Christmas and another just got braces, we'll definitely be removing the corn from the cobs before we eat it.
I cut corn off the cob all of the time, and the kernels tend to fly all over the place. (Am I the only one with that problem? Honestly, it flies everywhere!) When I was researching how to freeze corn, I found a great tip, and I now know how to remove corn from the cob without making a mess! This is so easy!
How to Remove Corn from the Cob without the Mess!
Just grab your bundt pan or angel food cake pan, stick the corn cob in the center, and cut away! Because the corn is raised, you can easily slice down the entire length of the cob. Because of the rounded edges of the pan, the kernels drop down instead of piling up and spilling over the edges of the plate, cutting board, or whatever you used before. I did this with eighteen ears of corn, and I only ended up with about five kernels on the counter when I was finished. I'd call that a success!
Because I was getting the corn ready to freeze (come back later this week for that post), my corn was already cooled. If you are trimming hot corn to eat right away, just stab the top end with a corn skewer to hold the corn without burning your fingers.
Don't you feel smarter now that you know how to remove corn from the cob without making a mess? :)
Oh, how I love corn on the cob! My kids and I fought over ever last kernel! (In a friendly way--I promise!)

What a great idea! My girls love corn, but i'm constantly chasing the kernels around the kitchen floor after they bounce off of the cutting board. Will definitely be trying this next time! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Aida. I hope it works for you! Now that I've tried this, I'll never go back. No more corn all over the house for me! I'm off to check out your site.

Is there anything a bundt pan can't do? Thanks for sharing it at the Pinworthy Project Party!

Great idea! Also, if you're freezing / canning a lot of corn (our family puts up about 200 quarts each year) an electric knife is a must. Of course, there's quite an element of mess with the electric knife, but it's worth it when you calculate out the savings of time and effort in removing the kernels.

Wow! That's a lot of corn. I can imagine that the electric knife would definitely come in handy. Thanks for the tip.
