Waterfall Braids

Waterfall braid via DIY Mom

I've been wanting to learn the to create waterfall braids forever, but since I didn't know what they were called, I couldn't find directions.  Thanks to Rachel at Adventures of a DIY Mom, I've got it all figured out!  She linked three beautiful braid ideas to my One Creative Weekend Linky Party #2.  All three involved the waterfall braid.  I was hooked!  Now the trick--how to get my tomboy to let me braid her hair . . .

All I had to do was let her scroll through the ideas on my linky party, and she asked me to try a braid on her!  Miracle.  Here's how it turned out:

Waterfall Braid -- It works a little differently on thin hair, but it still works! {OneCreativeMommy.com}

My kids have super-thin hair, so it doesn't even look close to as cool as DIY Mom's hairstyles, but I still like it.  Now that I'm looking back at the tutorials, I can pretty much see what I did wrong, but I'm ready to try another day, and I'm ready to try the others, too.  (Bear hates to be photographed.  She graciously let me take pictures--as long as I didn't get her face!)

Boo couldn't be left out, so we had to try her hair too.  If you are wondering if you can do this braid on kids with bangs . . . you can.  I originally left her bangs down, but they were so uneven (from my cutting--not from the style), that I gave them a little twist and pinned them with bobby pins under the waterfall braid.

Boo loves to be photographed.  Since it's impossible to take a bad picture of her, it was much easier to capture her braids!

To learn how to do this (from an expert--not from me), be sure to visit Rachel's blog for the tutorials.  (Next time, I'll try it on a diagonal like she does.  I can't wait!)

    Your daughter is so cute! You did a great job with her braids! I tried these one time and they turned out pretty good. I think I would like to try the double braid next time I feel brave. Thanks for linking up!

    This brings back such sweet memories I have of doing my girl's hair when they were so very young. I loved braiding it and would have loved doing this. Thank you for sharing at Freedom Fridays:)
