Spooktastic September {OneCreativeMommy.com}

Hi all! I'm Emily from Nap-Time Creations. Heidi and I share a love of felt, so today that's what I'm crafting with!

My boys always have a million ideas of what they want to be for Halloween. They can't make up their mind, so at the last minute I always end up just making something easy. So... if you are looking for an easy dress up or Halloween costume, these easy felt superhero masks are for you! Iron Man, Batman, and the Hulk could be running around your house by this afternoon.

I found the mask template here for free download. I didn't create this, but it's free for anyone to download.

The printable has TONS of masks for you to choose from, and these are only three of MANY. You will need to enlarge each one, though. You can do this by using a copier or printer to enlarge, OR I just like to zoom in on my screen and trace.... Like this:

Brighten your screen and use tracing paper to create a template.

For a single color mask, cut two layers of the color. Sew around the outside and around the eye holes to create the mask. Sew ribbon on the sides to tie on.

If your mask is multi-colored, cut a FULL mask out of the main color.

Then, cut out the part of the pattern for each additional color and sew it on top of the main back.

Here are all the pieces, pin and sew together.

Add ribbon on the sides to create a tie. Then sew around each felt piece OR use hot glue to hold it all together.

The hulk has a full green back, with black cut outs on top.

Zooming in on the screen to enlarge the pattern is brilliant! Why didn't I think of that? For Christmas I am creating a dress-up box for my sons with super hero capes, masks, and other costumes so this tutorial is perfect!

I know! Isn't that a smart idea? Have fun with the dress-up box! (Be prepared for the clothes on the floor all the time! I remember those days--but my kids loved it!)

These look simple and doable. I might give them a shot. My three-year-old is just getting into dress-up. He'd love a variety of super-hero options.

As a mother of three girls and no boys, I've always wondered what boys use for dress up. Until now, all I've ever come up with is capes and cowboy hats. These are perfect.

My kids are mostly grown, but I still have one who would love this…at least in secret. Thanks for the cute idea!

It's sad to see the last one grow up! My youngest is 8, and she always wants to do what the big kids are doing. I don't want her to miss out on doing the fun little kid things!

Thanks, Kendra, but I didn't create these. They were designed by Emily, who created this guest post. She's the creative mind behind this genius idea!

Have fun, Heidi! I have all girls, so It was always princess crowns and dresses at our houses. We never had a single super hero.

I am Shuswap and Wampanoag and am tired of people dressing in mock versions of our regalia without any understanding of our culture. Appreciation is not enough to allow this type of behavior. Non-Native people dressed in costumes like this one are practicing cultural appropriation.
