Looking for a fun way to decorate a door for Halloween? These easy Halloween door decorations can turn an ordinary door into a mummy, monster, witch, Frankenstein, and more.
I originally collected these ideas for classroom doors, but there's no reason to leave all the fun at school! Use them to decorate a classroom, your front door, a child's bedroom door, or even an indoor door for a trunk-or-treat or Halloween party.
Most of these Halloween door ideas use simple supplies like colored paper, streamers, tape, and inexpensive Halloween decorations, so choose your favorite and have fun!
11 Easy Halloween Door Decorating Ideas
1. Simple Mummy Door
This one couldn't be much easier. Cover the door with black paper, add two large eyes, and layer random strips of white paper across the door to create the mummy's wrappings.
This would be especially cute on a front door for Halloween! (Keep reading to see it.)
2. Monsters, Inc. Door
This one takes a little more time, but I've already done some of the work for you! Use my tutorial and printable hands and facial features to recreate the monster door. (Keep reading to see this one in a house instead of a school.)
3. Dracula Door
Cover the top two-thirds of the door with white paper, then use basic shapes cut from red, black, and white paper to create Dracula's face and clothing.
4. Striped Witch Door
Don't worry about making this one fancy. Most of the witch is made from simple shapes and strips of paper. Add black crepe paper around the outside for an easy border.
5. Spooky Students Door
Ghosts and haunted houses make this one especially fun for a classroom. If you don't have access to a die-cut or cutting machine (affiliate link), look for inexpensive pre-cut Halloween shapes at the dollar store or craft store.
6. Polka Dot Monster Door
This has always been one of my favorites! Cover the door in a bright solid color, then trace different-sized circles onto scrapbook paper using bowls, lids, or anything round you have at home.
Turn the largest circle into an eye and add a freehand mouth, teeth, and horns. It looks impressive without requiring complicated supplies.
And, just for fun, here's a twist on the same idea.
7. Scarecrow Door
This one would be particularly easy if your door were already brown. Skip the brown paper, and use the door itself to become the scarecrow's face, and add the details with paper. Black masking tape works perfectly for the stitched mouth.
8. Frankenstein Door
Another wonderfully simple Halloween door decoration. Cover the door in green paper, add Frankenstein's hair and facial features with paper cutouts, and draw the smaller details with a black marker.
This one would be especially fun for an indoor trunk-or-treat, where you can open the decorated door to hand out candy.
9. Simple Spiderweb Door
Stretch inexpensive fake spiderwebs across the door and add a few plastic spiders. You can cover the door with colored paper first or simply use the existing door color as your background.
It's an especially easy option when you want a big Halloween effect without spending a lot of time decorating.
10. Maleficent Door
This one is a little more ambitious, but look closely and you'll see that most of the design can be broken down into basic paper shapes. The curled paper details make it extra fun.
11. Caution Tape Door
Short on time? Grab a few rolls of caution tape and start wrapping! Add fake spiderwebs and small plastic spiders for an easy creepy-cute Halloween door.
Halloween Door Decorations Aren't Just for Classrooms
These ideas started as classroom door decorations, but they can work just about anywhere! Decorate your front door, surprise your kids by decorating their bedroom door, or use one as a fun backdrop for an indoor trunk-or-treat or Halloween party.
At Home
A Halloween door can be such an easy way to add Halloween fun without decorating the whole house. Try a silly monster on a bedroom door, or turn your front door into a mummy with strips of white fabric or paper.
For Parties and Indoor Trick-or-Treating
No car? No problem! If your school, church, or community holds an indoor trunk-or-treat, decorate a doorway instead. A big character like this Frankenstein makes the perfect spot for handing out candy.
Have fun door decorating this year. As a former teacher, I know that the teachers really appreciate it when room moms and volunteers take care of fun things like this for the class. I hope you enjoy these ideas. I'd love to hear what you're doing for your kids' classes.
