Super Cute Ribbon Spider Halloween Shirt

Published: Jan 29, 2021 by Heidi. This post may contain affiliate links 8 Comments

You're going to love today's Spooktastic September guest! She's super creative, and check out her adorable daughter! Have a cute girl in your life that needs a cute Halloween shirt?  Make this Ribbon Spider Shirt and she'll love you forever!

I love this cute and easy ribbon spider Halloween shirt! Such an easy DIY to make with kids! {Occasionally Crafty guest post on OneCreativeMommy.com} Great Halloween Craft!

Hello everyone!  I'm Valerie from Occasionally Crafty, and I'm thrilled to be here for Spooktastic September.  When my daughter was little, I used to make cute shirts for her all the time!  I wasn't sure if she would still want me to now that she's ten and a "tween," but when I showed her my idea, she was so excited!  This Ribbon Spider Shirt is perfect for girls of all ages!

    You will need the following:

    • T-shirt (I used a black long-sleeve tee from Walmart)
    • Fabric for Spider body (scraps are perfect for this!)
    • Ribbon for Spider Legs
    • Needle and Thread
    • Sewing Machine
    • Heat Transfer Vinyl or Googly Eyes

    Spider Halloween T-shirt supplies

Even if you're not that comfortable sewing, you can make this shirt!  Here's how:

Halloween spider shirt -- spider body

Trace your spider body onto your fabric using two round objects.  I used a tupperware lid, then I overlapped a jar lid for the head.

    Halloween Spider Shirt Ribbon Legs

Cut eight pieces of ribbon for legs.  My daughter's shirt is a size 10, so our spider is fairly large.  I cut the ribbon pieces at 2.5 inches each.

(I am purposely doing this the quick and easy way because she'll wear this shirt only once or twice before Halloween.  If you want it to last longer, consider using fusible backing to iron the fabric onto the shirt.)

Pin your spider body onto your tee as desired, then carefully arrange the legs under and around the fabric as desired.  Pin the legs in place.  Use lots of pins!

Use your machine to sew around the edge of the spider body, making sure to catch each ribbon leg as you go.   Remove pins as you sew.  Clip your threads.

Now, the legs will be flopping all over the place, so you'll need to hand tack them down with a few stitches at the bottom of each leg.

Finish up by adding some eyes and a smile if desired.  I used black and white HTV (heat transfer vinyl) and cut some circles for eyes.  If you don't want to do this you could buy some googly eyes and glue them on the spider.

That's it- hand it over to your girl and watch her smile!

The shirt is adorable! This looks so quick and easy to do I actually might make one for my two year old son. He is obsessed with spiders right now. His favorite puppet is a big black hairy spider. He'd probably love to wear a shirt with a hairy spider on it!

Thanks, Lara. That's my favorite part, too. I love projects that use up extra materials.

I was just trying to think what would make these work for boys. I think that color change would do the trick!
