26 Random Acts of Kindness for Sandy Hook

Ray of Hope(Image submitted to Fanpop by Chel1395)  Hope

My heart breaks for those who lost loved ones on Friday and for all of the children who lost their sense of security.  I know there is nothing any of us can do to change what has already happened, but I found something I can do to make a difference.  I hope you'll join me.

I saw this yesterday morning in a Facebook post from a friend.  (Click on the title to see the original article.)

Inspired to act: #26Acts of kindness to honor those lost in Newtown, Conn..

This idea is spreading like wildfire, and I love it!  Why not turn tragedy into hope?

What would happen if everyone performed 26 random acts of kindness to honor the lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary?  Even if we each only performed one, think what a difference it would make!

Christmas is already a time when most of us try to be more kind to honor our Savior, Jesus Christ.  I challenge us all to redouble our efforts.  I don’t care if you keep track of a number or not. It's okay to feel sad, but let's allow that sadness to guide us to act.  Let's open our hearts to this season of peace and hope.  Let's be a little more patient, a little more kind, and a little more giving.  Let’s show gratitude for our blessings by sharing with someone else.

You don't need to tell me or anyone else what you do.  Just do it!  Good luck!

    Here are some ideas:

    • Pay for the person behind you at the drive through
    • Allow the woman with fussy children to go ahead of you in the checkout line
    • Smile at the grocery clerk who kept you waiting because of a difficult customer ahead of you
    • Offer to help your child with a chore you've been nagging them about forever
    • Rake a neighbors leaves or shovel their walk
    • Make someone laugh
    • Get something from the top shelf for an elderly person at the store
    • Cheer up someone who looks sad
    • Invite someone to join you that isn't usually included
    • Iron your husband's clothes without complaining (maybe that one's just for me!)
    • Buy an extra Christmas gift and drop it in the Toys for Tots box at the store
    • Donate your extra coats to Goodwill
    • Look people in the eye and smile!
    • When you pass people in the halls, on the street, or in the store, say hello instead of looking at the floor

*Remember--little things make a big difference!
