The Absolute Best Valentine's Day Gift Idea

Published: Jan 29, 2025 by Heidi. This post may contain affiliate links 9 Comments

How do you make Valentine's Day extra special? How do you shower love on a long-distance Valentine? The answer to both questions is the same -- with this clever 14-day Valentine's Day gift idea!

The title, Long-distance Valentine ideas to bring you closer together, is shown above an image of a couple standing in the snow and embracing. The woman is wearing a red coat and mittens.

My hubby will be out of town this Valentine's Day, so the girls and I have been planning a secret gift for him (and he had better not be reading my blog right now!). We've been creating a package filled with 14 days of Valentines.

Be sure to check out the video to see how the whole project comes together.

If you have a long-distance Valentine (or a Valentine close to home), you'll want 14 printable valentines plus 14 Do Not Open Until cards -- perfect for a clever Valentine's Day gift idea!

A collage of 14 printable Valentine's day cards. Tags for Tic Tacs candy, 100 Grand candy bars, Rolo candy, Dove chocolate hearts, cookies, Sweethearts, Life cereal, donuts, peanuts, Swedish Fish, Reeses Pieces, Doublemint gum, gummy bears, and Goldfish crackers are included.

14 Valentine's Day gifts wrapped in red paper with a Do Not Open Until cards attached to each gift with red baker's twine. The gifts are piled up on top of a wooden table.

This would be great for military spouses, college students, LDS missionaries, aging parents, and anyone with a loved one far away.  It would also be fun to do for your kiddos, spouse, or significant other.

Of course, you can use any Valentine as part of your gift, but I'll show you the 14 Valentines I used that will be included in your free printables. (Use them in any order.) You'll find the link to the printables at the end of the post.

Day 1: Give your Valentine his or her favorite cookies

The "You're a Smart Cookie, Valentine!" gift card is included in the free printable. If you would like to use the card as a classroom Valentine, it's available individually in this post.

Day 2: Give a package of Rolos or Tootsie Roll candy

A package of Rolo candies is shown with a red Valentine tag that says, Valentine, I like the way you roll!

Add to your Valentine's Day gift idea with "Valentine, I like the way you roll!" and "Valentine, we like the way you roll!" cards are included in your free printable. You'll find the tags adapted for classroom Valentines here.

Day 3: Give a favorite box of cereal

A closeup image of a box of Life cereal with a Valentine's Day that says, You make my life so sweet!

This tag specifically matches Life cereal, but you could attach it to any box of sweetened cereal (or anything sweet, really). "You make my life so sweet!" and "You make our life so sweet!" tags are included in the free printable, and separately here.

Day 4: Choose your Valentine's favorite pack of gum

A pack of Double Mint gum and several sticks of gum are shown with a card on top that says, I am stuck on you Valentine

This tag specifically goes with Wrigley's DoubleMint gum, but any type of gum will do. If the Valentine is for a kid, you could even use glitter glue or something like that. The printable comes with "I'm stuck on you," and "We're stuck on you," and it can be found separately here.

Day 5: Grab a bag of Donuts!

A bag of Hostess powdered donuts is shown with a card taped to it that says, Donut you know how much I love you, Valentine?

Donuts are one of my favorite Valentine's Day gift ideas. It would be fun to add this tag to a box of Krispy Cremes. Yum! The printable comes with "Donut you know I Love You, Valentine?" and Donut you know we love you, Valentine?" You can also find it separately here.

Day 6: Start talking with Conversation Hearts

Two green boxes of Valentine's Day Conversation Hearts candy are show with a tag that says, You're such a sweetie!

This printable will work with conversation hearts or any kind of sweetheart candy. You're Such a Sweetie!

Day 7: Is your Valentine Worth $100 Grand?

A small 100 Grand candy bar is shown with a Valentine's Day card that says, Valentine, you're pricele$$

This Valentine's Day card works for 100 Grand candy bars, Pay Day candy bars, and probably a few others as well.

Day 8: Pick a pack of your Valentine's favorite Nuts

An open canister of peanuts and a small package of Nutter Butter cookies are shown with a Valentine's Day card that says, I am nuts about you, Valentine!

I originally used a canister of nuts for this Valentine's Day gift, but I recently found Nutter Butter cookies, and I think the tag goes well with those, too. "I'm nuts about you, Valentine!" and "We're nuts about you, Valentine!" cards are included in the free printable and can be found separately, here.

Day 9: Grab some Goldfish Crackers

A small bag of Goldfish crackers is shown with a card on top that says, You o-fish-ally have my heart, Valentine. The card has a picture of a goldfish cracker on it.

"You o'fish'ally have my heart, Valentine!" and You o'fish'ally have our heart, Valentine cards are included in the free printables and can be printed separately from this post.

Day 10: Go simple with a Candy Heart

A square-shaped card with a cute dinosaur holding a giant red heart if shown with a few Valentine's Day Dove chocolate hearts. The card says, I heart you Valentine!

Cover the dinosaur's heart with any candy heart for this Valentine treat. I personally love Dove chocolate, and they conveniently come in heart shapes during the Valentine's Day season. The printable includes "I {Heart} You, Valentine!" and "We {Heart} you Valentine!

Day 11: Freshen up with Tic-Tacs

An open package of white Tic Tac candies is shown on a red background. Several tic tacs have spilled out onto the table. The logo is covered by a tag that says, Valentine, you're my hero, with a picture of Baymax.

These Tic Tac Valentines are based on the character of Baymax from the Big Hero 6 movie. "Valentine you're my Hero" and Valentine you're our Hero" cards are included in the printable here, and you'll find three different designs of "Valentine you're my Hero" in this post.

Day 12: Share some Reese's Pieces

Two boxes of Reese's pieces candy are shown with a Valentine's Day tag that says, You stole a piece of my heart.

This tag is made for Reese's Pieces candy, but if the gift is for a child, it would be cute to pair it with the book, "The Missing Piece," by Shel Silverstein. "You stole a piece of my heart," and You stole a piece of our hearts" tags are included in the free printable, and also can be found separately in this post.

Day 13: Go exotic with Sweedish Fish

A large bag of Swedish Fish candy is shown with a Valentine's Day card taped to it that says, You are the sweetest fish in the sea, Valentine!

This Valentine's Day gift idea printable tag can also be used with Goldfish crackers, and it can be found in the free printable and separately in this post.

Day 14: Go for the ultimate cuteness with gummy bears

Two small packages of gummy bears are shown with several gummy bears scattered across the table. A Valentine's Day card is attached to the bag that says, I think you're beary sweet! There is a picture of a cute bear holding a red balloon on the tag.

Isn't that little bear the cutest? You could pair this tag with gummy bears, a bottle of honey (the kind that comes in the bear container), or even a bear plushie. The free printable includes "I think you're beary sweet!" and "We think you're beary sweet!"

If any of these Valentine cards don't work for you, you'll find a ton more free printable Valentines here. I just really love making Valentines!

It's time to create your Valentines!

When you're ready to print your cards, choose from the "From Me to You" Valentine cards and the "From Us to You" Valentine cards. If you plan to send a Valentine's Day care package to your long-distance Valentine, you'll also want the free printable "Do not open until cards." They're all included.

What a (truly!) sweet, thoughtful idea! Daddy is going to feel so much love across those miles! I love the way you packaged everything too. I have been wondering about the surprise, but would have never guessed this one!

Thanks so much, Joyce. Now Daddy just has to promise not to read my blog! (I usually wait to post things like this, but I just couldn't wait!)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the big her0-6 tic tac valentine idea and one of my sons wants to do this. Thanks for sharing your talents with moms who struggle with creativity (me). My other twin wants to do the "I like the way you roll" valentine except use tootsie rolls (cheaper), but I can't figure out how to download your cute little rectangle with the saying on it. Please help?!?

I'm so glad you like my ideas, Heather. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I didn't make a separate set of the Rolo valentines. (Maybe next year.) They are in the download of the tags for the 14 valentines at the bottom of this post (there is a download button for an "I love you" set and a "we love you" set. They are on the second page of the download. If you have access to any type of photo editing program, just open the pdf in the program, erase all of the extra valentines, and make copies of the one you want.

I love the You are the Sweetest Fish in the Sea, Valentine! I have the packages of the Swedish Fish candies. I send valentine packages to my great-grandchildren and include this and I volunteer at my daughter's school for 2nd grade and celebrate Valentine's Day and we play Valentine Bingo with prizes which the above is one of them! Also share Valentine I Spy, Valentine jokes and play with the Valentine cootie catcher.
